Similar to facebook’s “like” button google +1 allows web users to publically vote for websites they find interesting or useful by clicking a button on in either the search results or on various websites.

You might be thinking – what’s the point in that? Well…. When UK office workers search for “office supplies” in Google they see the following results page if they are signed into Google.

You will notice that staples and Viking do not have a blue box nest to their results listing… but the office supplies supermarket does. This makes the listing stand out more – which means more people will click on it – which means it will then rank higher within Google.
