A supporter of Breast Cancer Campaign for over six years, Pentel raised more than £262,000 in 2012 for the charity thanks to strong partnerships with its trade customers and continued end-user enthusiasm for its ‘pink’ products.
Pentel became a corporate partner to Breast Cancer Campaign in autumn 2006, launching a special pink-barrelled version of the LineStyle ballpoint pen, which quickly became a hit. In the years since, products that have followed include a mini pink-barrelled Micro Correct pen, a mini ballpoint and rollerball combination, the StarGrip everyday ballpoint pen and, most recently, a special edition of the EnerGel Xm retractable liquid gel pen with an attractive pink barrel and rubber finger grip.
Wendy Vickery, Pentel Marketing Manager, says, “To put things in perspective, over the period of our partnership with Breast Cancer Campaign sufficient pens have been sold which, if placed end-to-end, could go up and down the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest tower, 971 times; to travel through the Channel Tunnel and back nearly six times or to go around the M25 just over three times!
“We’ve now raised over £791,500 for Breast Cancer Campaign through sales of our special edition pens and we thank our customers for their continued support. The money is helping to fund vital projects in the UK and Eire and the magic million isn’t far away!”
Mayaz Rahman, Head of Corporate Partnerships at Breast Cancer Campaign commented, “Pentel’s enormously generous effort will make a massive difference; helping to save the lives of the 48,000 women diagnosed with breast cancer each year in the UK. To have already raised nearly £800,000 is incredible, and we are looking forward to working with Pentel, one of our key supporters for many more years.”
Pentel’s relationship with Prostate Cancer UK, although more recent, is also going from strength to strength, thanks largely to the success of a special white and blue barrelled version of the EnerGel Xm retractable liquid gel pen.
In 2012 Pentel raised over £110,500 for the charity, with spectacular sales in October in preparation for ‘Movember’, when supporters of the initiative are sponsored by friends, family and colleagues to grow a moustache and raise awareness of the work of Prostate Cancer UK.
Mark Bishop, Director of Fundraising at Prostate Cancer UK, said: “We are very grateful to Pentel and all its customers for their fantastic fundraising, which will help Prostate Cancer UK to support men with the disease, provide vital information and find answers by funding research into causes and treatments.
“The partnership has been a great success and we look forward to working with Pentel in 2013. It’s fantastic to have the support of Pentel in the first month of our major new fundraising campaign – The Sledgehammer Fund. Thanks to Pentel for helping us to begin to crack prostate cancer once and for all.”
Wendy Vickery says, “Pentel has been a corporate partner to Prostate Cancer UK since late 2009 and to date we’ve raised over £190,000 for the charity. We’re working hard to reach our first big milestone, £250,000.”
She adds, “We look forward to another continued year of success with both Breast Cancer Campaign and Prostate Cancer UK”.
